Brazil accession to Madrid System will enter into force on October 2, 2019

WIPO has received Brazil’s accession document to the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Trademarks, which confirms that it will enter into force on October 2, 2019. This is the last step after a long accession process which needed previous approval by both, the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate. At the end of June, the instrument of Brazil’s accession was also signed by the President Jair Bolsonaro. Now, Brazil will be the 105th member of Madrid System after Canada accession on June 17, 2019 and Samoa accession on March, 4.

After joined the WIPO-administered international trademark system, international trademark holders may extend to Brazil the protection of their distinctive signs to the greater market of Latin America and one of the greatest innovation centers.
