On April 20th, 2021, a Technical Cooperation Agreement was signed between the National Council of Justice (CNJ) and the Patent and Trademark Office (INPI) in Brazil.

This is an unprecedented technical-scientific cooperation agreement for the registration of intellectual creations owned by CNJ related to brands and computer programs.

The agreement also provides for the exchange of information between institutions, training of Judiciary teams in intellectual property topics through courses and seminars with specialists. In addition, the agreement will allow courts to access INPI database to reinforce judicial decisions.

Currently, only the states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo have courts specialized in intellectual property, which can contribute to tortuous legal proceedings.

For professionals in the area, and those seeking to protect their intellectual property, the Agreement is a major step towards a future with a judiciary more cohesive and qualified on the subject, which further stimulates innovation.
