Chile is the only country in the region which possesses the Supplementary Protection remedy, i.e., the right to request the Industrial Property Court an extended period of protection for a granted patent, on grounds of the unjustified administrative delay encountered by the patent while being processed before the National Institute of Industrial Property (Inapi).
