The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Department of Social Communication, announced on June 26th, 2019 a note confirming Brazil’s accession to the Madrid Protocol.

The note, No. 167, confirms President Jair Bolsonaro, signed on June 25th, 2019 the instrument of Brazil’s accession to the Protocol relating to the Madrid Agreement concerning the International Registration of Trademarks, ratifying the previous approval of said agreement by both, the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate.

The Instrument signed by the President will now be registered with WIPO and will enter into force 90 days after this date.

By acceding to the Protocol, Brazil will become part of the more than 100 countries members of the agreement, facilitating and simplifying the registration of trademarks and their maintenance in these countries, as the whole process can be done directly through the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI).
