Mexico approves its accession to the Hague Agreement for international designs

Mexico has approved its accession to the 1999 Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement, relating to the international registration of industrial designs and drawings. This measure was signed by the country’s Senate on September 7, although the date of entry into force is still unknown.

This accession will allow Mexican creators to manage the registration of designs in the countries of the Agreement by means of a single application in the WIPO, in a single language and subject to a single set of fees. The applicant of an international designs can also designate Mexico in their registrations.

The decision will allow Mexico to comply with “the commitments established in intellectual property in the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC), the modernization of the Free Trade Agreement between Mexico and the European Union (FTA EU-MX) and the Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership signed with Japan, Canada, Australia, Chile, Peru, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei, Malaysia y New Zealand”, as indicated by the Mexican Government.
