Resolution No. 549/2014 of the Minsitry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries

On December 4, 2014, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries recognized the GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION “MELON DE MEDIA AGUA, SAN JUAN,” as applied by the Council of the referred geographical indication, and authorized registration of the same.
The state agency responsible for examining applications of GI considered that the applicant had complied with the requirements and technical and legal conditions established by Law No. 25.380 as amended by Law 25,966 and Regulatory Decree No. 556 for obtaining recognition of the GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION.
According to said resolution the production area of “Melon de Media Agua, San Juan” is limited in compliance with another legal requirement and also approved the logotype to be used to market the product covered by the GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION “MELON DE MEDIA AGUA, SAN JUAN ” which must contain the number and year of the resolution approving the protocol of the GI.
The resolution also provides for the mandatory use of the definitive sign corresponding to the GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION “MELON DE MEDIA AGUA, SAN JUAN” on all products covered and also ordered to notify the ARGENTINE INSTITUTE OF INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY (INPI) to avoid registration of the GI as a trademark.
