Chile is the only country of the region having the Additional Protection remedy, which is basically a right to request from the Industrial Property Court an extended protection time of a granted patent, as a result of the unjustified administrative delay in granting the patent processed by the National Institute of Intellectual Property (Instituto Nacional de Propiedad Industrial, Inapi).
